Professor Susan L. Karamanian
George Washington University Law School
Susan Karamanian is the Associate Dean for International and Comparative Legal Studies at the George Washington University Law School. Before joining GW Law in 2000, she was a partner at Locke Lord LLP in Dallas, Texas, where she represented clients in commercial litigation matters and also maintained an active pro bono practice representing inmates on Texas's death row. She has held leadership positions in the American Society of International Law, including having served as Vice-President, and is a former president of the Washington Foreign Law Society. She serves on the boards of the Center for American and International Law (CAIL) and the Texas Appleseed Foundation, and she is a former member of the board of the Association of American Rhodes Scholars. Susan is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the American Council on Germany, and a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the Texas Bar Foundation. She has provided lectures on public international law at the University of Paris and was director of English studies at the Hague Academy of International Law. Her recent scholarship has focused on the relationship between foreign investment and human rights. She is a graduate of the University of Texas Law School, Oxford University, where she was a Rhodes Scholar, and Auburn University.
